I highly recommend reading it, as it takes a great look at how search works and has more importantly how it has changed in the last dozen years.

Privacy-centric search engine DuckDuckGo might not boast the popularity of their rival Google in raw numbers. But, the search engine making bigger and bigger strides.

The impressive continued growth of DuckDuckGo cannot be ignored. I admire their marketing techniques with a focus on privacy, which, in a world post-GDPR, has worked very well and gained them a bigger market share and growth than expected. As the popularity grows and more and more searchers take notice, SEO marketing specialists should consider how to optimize their content towards the platform. However, for now, their market share is still too small for most, but I would keep an open eye on them

New Report Looks at the Optimal Facebook Posting Practices in '19

The team from BuzzSumo has analyzed more than 777 million Facebook Page posts from last year in order to determine the optimal Facebook post length, post type and posting times, among other factors, that can help boost your Facebook Advertisement performance in 2019. The report finds that Video, to no one's surprise, is the best performing post type and the evening are the best time to post and if you are looking for engagement you should post in the weekend. One finding does, however, surprise me a bit, as shorter posts trends to perform better than longer.  There is a lot more insight in the full report,  which is well worth a read for anyone working with SoMe who is looking to make the most of their Facebook efforts.

Smart Speaker Usage Is Growing according to eMarketer

eMarketer just released an interesting study on Smart Speaker Users in 2019. In 2019 China will be home to 85.5 million smart speaker users, surpassing the 74.2 million in the US. This means that 26% of internet users in the US will also be Smart Speaker users, while it's "only" 10% in China. In Europe United Kingdom is in the lead, with a penetration rate of 22.4% followed by Germany with 17.2% and France with 14%. The data does not surprise me, given that smart speakers were the hottest Christmas gift in 2018 and Amazon even experience a small breakdown, due to too many new devices. It will be interesting to see how this develops throughout the year and which image it will have on behavior especially usage.

Practical Ecommerce has written a great guide on how to get the new promotion feature in Google Shopping set up to help your ad stand out with a blue “Special offer” link. Once the special offer link is clicked, a small popup appears displaying more information. This is a very good way for marketers to make their product stand out in Google shopping and move past the typical components of a Shopping ad: product name, price, brand, and image. Quick note, to get access to the feature, you need to fill out a form, which you can find here (takes about 2 business days).

Bing Ads gives chance to win prizes for accreditation and more

Ann Smarty from Moz has written a great article on how to optimize content for questions related searches. The article goes through the steps from researching and uncovering the right questions, using a range of different tools, and how to add this to your marketing strategy. It's a great read and I highly recommend it. There is no doubt that question-related searches will become more and more important as voice search grows. The change in search behavior is likely to be fundamentally as shorter unique question-based queries are expected to grow dramatically throughout 2019.

Google Snippet result can now jump to specific section on website

Google can now link users directly to the exact spot, of the content they are seeing in the search results snippet for featured AMP. Thus, when users click on this special AMP featured snippet, google will jump to that exact content on the landing page skipping content before this. Furthermore the content used in the search result will be highlighted when displayed on the website making it even easier to find.

This new feature is currenly only being tested on AMP (Accelerated mobile pages). This means that valuable content (and ads) might be skipped in this jump. It moreover highlights the importance of creating great concrete content, as it could end up as featured snippet and be the only content the users sees.

3 2 1 Happy New Year! It's with great pleasure that I can announce that my website project is live for the world to see. On this website you will find selected news from the world of online marketing. The focus will be on search marketing, as it is the biggest part of the online world, however SoMe and other forms of online marketing will not be overlooked. Every day, I will hand pick the most interesting news and share it here.

I got about 6 years of experience in working with online marketing, mostly SEM and SEO. Enough about me (I will create an About .me page later for those who are interested)

In the future I plan to publish articles, cheatsheets and maybe even some tools. So stay tuned.
